I'm off of the TV

"You know of what I speak. An eye, ever watching, lidless wreathed in moulded plastic."

I'm convinced that TV is the beast of 666 fame. If the media is the message, as Prof.McLuhan proclaimed, the message is sell your soul, not for rock n' roll, but for whatever crap you are lead to believe you need. Plus wasn't the Beast to have one eye and lead people to believe that it was the One; the Truth?

I am not a Marxist, but I think looking at TV through a Marxist lens does reveal a much wider and clearer picture. TV is fueled by greed. Shit pumped into your living room. Moral decay and the shaping of values is presented by the eye all in an effort to decieve you from what you know to be true. Why? To take your money and to push you to make more in order to buy more. How can anyone justify 7 figure salaries for a 30 minute episode of Friends where everyone sleeps around, no one gets AIDS, everyone carries on living their lives without any real consequences? How can anyone justify around the clock coverage of the death of a gold digging slut and the ensuing legal debaucle? People believe that what is presented on TV is the way life is. No, TV is shaping the way we live. TV has taken place of the parent, the church and the teacher. But who is profiting? Not the puppets who spend their lives pretending to be other people in front of the camera, but the people who bring it together, organize it, destroy everything sacred for their own gain.

I remember when TV only had 12 channels on a dial on the front of the TV. Channel 1 didn't work, there was a French channel, a cable 10 channel and a teletype channel leaving only 8 channels. TV was watchable, even if it was pretty dry. But TV hadn't mutated into the 500 channel hydra that it is now. You want murder? Channel 125. You want Porno? Channel 438. You want heavy handed critique of Religion? Channel 376. Family? God? Happiness? What do you need those things for when you can watch TV?

I know this hasn't been very eloquent or articulate, but I think it is worth thinking about. Turn the TV off forever. With the exception of live sporting events, of course.
